Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Fungopia

Game Basics

How many players can play Fungopia?

Fungopia is designed for 2-4 players, with a recommended age of 10+. The game includes four different mushroom species: Boletus, Amanita, Chanterelle, and Morel.

How long does a game of Fungopia take?

A typical game lasts 30-60 minutes. The game ends after 11 turns when players deplete their hypha pieces, making it perfect for game nights.

What age is Fungopia suitable for?

Fungopia is recommended for ages 10 and up. The game offers strategic depth that appeals to both families and experienced gamers.

Is Fungopia good for families?

Yes! Fungopia is an excellent family board game. It has simple rules that are easy to learn, but offers enough strategic depth to keep everyone engaged.

Gameplay

What's the difference between Grow and Sprout actions?

Grow allows you to add a hypha piece connecting to your existing network on any vacant tile edge. Sprout requires removing a spore token placed in a previous turn and allows you to place a hypha on that tile, potentially replacing opponent pieces.

How do you form mushrooms?

Mushrooms form when you connect three of your hypha pieces at an intersection. This earns you carbohydrates from adjacent tiles and refreshes one of your spores.

What are adaptation cards?

Adaptation cards provide special abilities that can be purchased using carbohydrates. Examples include relocating pieces, forcing opponent moves, immune priming, and growing mushrooms on insects.

How do you win at Fungopia?

Players score points through three ways: 1 point for each controlled tile, 1 point for each mushroom formed, and +1 point for the longest mycelium network. The player with the highest total wins.

Will there be expansions?

Strategy & Tips

What's a good strategy for beginners?

Focus on forming mushrooms early to generate carbohydrates, place spores strategically for future expansion, and try to control tiles with high carbohydrate values.

When should I buy adaptation cards?

Save carbohydrates for powerful moments - like breaking opponent connections, securing critical tiles, or setting up multi-mushroom formations.

How important is the immunity system?

Immunity is crucial for tiebreakers and allows you to place hypha on infested areas. Consider investing in at least one immunity token during the game.
